Applying Croom’s blackmail technique came easily to Annabelle and Bobbie and on Wednesday afternoon they met Belinda, Emma, Alice, Virginia, Tabitha and Joanne outside the college chapel. Their demands had met with different responses. Tabitha hadn’t even needed blackmailing but had been entranced at the prospect of being hitched to a Pony-Cart in the woods. Emma, now acting head-prefect as Caroline was in disgrace, had agreed only when it was absolutely clear that there was no chance of them been associated with the college and Joanne had followed her lead. On Emma’s demand they were out of uniform, in the rough, country clothes that every girl kept for Sunday afternoons. “This is Mr Croom’s van,” Alice remarked suspiciously.

“He said we could use it,” Annabelle replied.

“Oh yes,” Tabitha put in, “and what did you have to do to get that little favour?”

Annabelle stuck her tongue out and took hold of the heavy tailgate.

“Who’s driving?” Virginia asked.

“I am, I passed last hols,” Annabelle lied.

“Oh,” Virginia replied, sounding worried.

“What’s all this straw doing?” Emma demanded as Annabelle pushed the tailgate into place.

“It’s for you to lie in, and it’s clean and fresh, so don’t complain,” Bobbie shouted back just as the door closed, leaving the six girls in semi-darkness with the smells of straw and leather.

“Everything set?” Croom asked as Bobbie climbed into the cab behind Annabelle. “You take the map and direct me by a roundabout route.”

“Right,” Annabelle replied, “here’s Market Bourneford, it’s about fifteen miles, we’ll make it twenty-five by the back roads.”

Croom let the clutch in and pulled out into the road, ignoring the bumps and complaints from the back as he cornered rather too fast as they passed the college golf-course. Annabelle lay back with a mischievous smile on her pretty face as Bobbie produced a large pair of scissors from her coat pocket.

“Time to change,” Annabelle said when they were well clear of the college grounds. “You go first Bobbie.”

Doing his best to concentrate on the road instead of the display of nubile female flesh to his side, Croom drove on, keeping to the smaller roads so that fewer passers-by would get flashes of the girls bums and tits as they struggled to change into their riding gear in the confined space.
